West Essex High School Students Selected for Regional Musical Groups

West Essex High School students selected for musical groups.

Five students have successfully auditioned for Region 1 Music Groups and will perform in concerts in February.

Freshman Michael Wang of North Caldwell is one of the top 16 high school cello students in northern New Jersey and was named a member of the Region 1 Orchestra after his successful audition.

Michael said he is proud to represent West Essex and is looking forward to playing with the other musicians at the concert Feburary 12th at Sparta High School.

"Acceptance into this ensemble represents the highest level of achievement for high school musicians," said Alex Soares, Director of Orchestras for West Essex Regional High School.

Four West Essex High School seniors were selected for the North Jersey Region I High School Chorus. Nicole Pigott of Roseland, Alexa Farnese of North Caldwell and Krista Liotti of Fairfield are members of the Mixed Chorus while Gina Morrello of Roseland will participate in the Women’s Chorus. The students auditioned at Mahwah High School and will perform with the groups at a concert February 11th at Secaucus High School. More than 200 students auditioned for these ensembles, which represent the highest quality singers in this area of New Jersey. Gina and Krista placed in the top 10 of the altos in the auditions.

This is Nicole's sixth time in the regional chorus and Gina's third. Nicole sang with the All-State Mixed Chorus in November while Gina will perform with the All-State Women's Chorus in February. Krista performed with the All-State Women's Chorus last year.

The four singers will also perform in the West Essex Masquers' Spring Musical Production of Disney's "High School Musical."
