Our New Year's resolution at Caldwells Patch? To highlight and bring you some of the great coverage happening in nearby towns. And was 2010 a year to remember at Patch! We added, oh, a few hundred new sites from coast to coast. Locally, we went from five Essex County sites to 10: In addition to Livingston, Millburn, South Orange, and Maplewood, West Orange, Montclair, Bloomfield, Verona-Cedar Grove and Belleville launched in 2010.  Here are some of the best images of the year, caught by Patch photographers and contributors. No matter what time of year it is, there is rarely a day when Travis Trent does not have a hockey stick in his hand. West Essex head coach Mike Giampapa recalls seeing Trent, now a senior, practicing his craft outside one day last year despite a flood. "There must have been only 10 feet of driveway and Travis is out there shooting a puck into the net," said Giampapa, who lives only a couple of doors down in Fairfield from the Trent family. The year 2010 was quite an explosive year in sports for Caldwell, West Essex and Mount St. Dominic. ■ West Essex ice hockey team takes state title - The Knights defeated Hopewell Valley, 3-0, at the Prudential Center in March that completed eighth-seeded West Essex's drive to the Public B championship. Matt Trenk, Wes Bechtler, and Travis Trent scored a goal each for the Knights while goalie Mike Cuozzo made 17 saves. In 2010, we said hello to ... 1.     Stop & Shop The opening of the supermarket that replaced Kings in West Caldwell is certainly the most anticipated new business, with the largest square footage. 2.     Smith & Company moved around the corner from its original Smull Avenue location to the more visible Bloomfield Avenue storefront that used to be home to Just for Kixx. 3.     Genc's Pizza teased us for months with a sign in the window reading $5 pies all the time.
