Police say K-9 trail went cold Monday morning in area of Henderson Drive.

An intruder broke into a West Caldwell house Monday morning, but quicky fled after realizing someone was home, according to West Caldwell Police.

Officials say a Passaic Avenue resident in the area of Long Meadow Lane called 9-1-1 at about 11:30 a.m. and said someone had broken into her house. No items were reported missing and the woman was not injured, according to police.

The search for a suspect was aided by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit. The dog led police to the area of Henderson Drive, but the animal lost the scent.

The search was assisted by the Fairfield and North Caldwell Police Departments.

Police investigating the incident said a rear door was forced open and the suspect was making his or her way to the second floor of the home, but took off after realizing the house was occupied.

Someone said the police caught him yesterday morning near the Sears, Walgreens area. They said that's why the helicopter was out yesterday morning. Did anyone else hear that too?
