With the wind chill making it feel close to zero degrees this week, it's tempting to start your car and leave it running in the driveway while you finish getting ready in the morning.

But consider yourself warned. Not only is this practice bad for the environment and costly in gas, it makes your car an easy target for thieves.

Police are searching for two cars that were taken from driveways Thursday morning in Cedar Grove. The Acura and Jeep were both reportedly left running and unattended.

A similar theft was reported in West Caldwell on Whitaker Place earlier this month.

West Caldwell Police Chief Michael Bramhall said after the incident, "We always encourage people not to leave their vehicles unattended while running for safety issues as well as for issues such as this."

Besides, modern car engines don't need to be warmed up for more than a couple of minutes, according to Engine Warm-Up 101 on AOL Autos.

I'm positive that people know the car doesn't need to be warmed up it is that they want to heat the inside up so it is warm for them. Buy a seat warmer you'll be happy with it - usually sold as a seat massager with heat so you don't have to deal with this risk. Best of luck to all.
