Taco Bell Closes in West Caldwell

The Taco Bell in West Caldwell is no mas.
The Mexican fast-food franchise at 940 Bloomfield Avenue shut its doors over the weekend. Windows are papered, the driveway is blocked by orange cones and all signage has been removed.
On Tuesday afternoon, Betty Sutherland of Roseland was getting her car worked on at Konner Chevrolet, which is located right next door to the shuttered restaurant. Sutherland said she likes Mexican food and had eaten at the Taco Bell. However, she said, it was difficult for her to find selections that meet her low-cholesteral dietary needs.
"There's nothing like making it yourself," Sutherland said.
Joe Garcia has worked at Konner for more than 27 years. Garcia said Tuesday in all the years the restaurant has been there he only went once—and it was for a drink.
Garcia said he just doesn't like Mexican food and prefers to bring his lunch or eat at Lou's Hot Bagels across the road.
Local fans of Taco Bell's Nachos Bellgrande, Volcano Taco, Cheese Roll-Up and Crunchwrap Supreme will have to get their fix at the two nearest locations: the food court at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne or the Little Falls Taco Bell on Route 46.

That the signage is down and the windows are papered over is a pretty good indication that work has already begun on the next business. Wonder what it'll be. . .

this is a shame. another empty store in town. that 'new' traffic pattern made it so hard to get into the place. we liked going there for a quick taco.

Definitely another pizzeria. Preferably with the names 'Anthony', 'Frank', or a combination of the both. Anyone else notice how almost every pizzeria in this area has these name?

There is more to the story when a corporate eatery leaves town. Corporations can absorb losses in various markets. But when one consistently is non-sustaining, they close the doors. It does not bode well for our towns when businesses bail. Residents must choose to support local businesses before leaving the area. What shall move into Taco Bell's space? Hopefully not a bank, Pizza joint or nail salon- we have those covered. We need diversity in our businesses. But businesses are hesitant to move in when the customers do not support them.

Kudos to the Gladstein family. I believe that Taco Bell was the last obstacle before they could build the net Super Shop-Rite. I believe the plans are to include a food court with Burger King and Taco Bell.

That is always too bad when we hear of any firm closing-what is the first thing that happens-some poor souls are now out of work!! O.K. a $5.00/hr.job,big deal-well it is for some persons the difference between sinking or swimming.How many people can remember "Arthur Treacher's" at that same location backin the '60's?Let's just hope those forced out will land some work soon.Respectfully,G.L.Mitchell W.C.

I worked there for one year in 2010, a couple of my friends that i had made while working there had there job for a consecutive 8 years. But it is okay most of the people i knew that worked there had two jobs.

I have only lived here a few years but I honestly felt the staff was above average exceptional at this TB and the quality to be a bit better then a few other TB's I have went to, not that it can differ that much but it seemed to.
