Just a few hours into Friday's Winter Storm, local police departments have already sent out numerous snow-related updates and information via text and email—with more to come throughout the night and into Saturday.
Alerts have included vital information about snow removal ordinances, parking restrictions and school closings.
Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell are all using systems which allow towns and police to communicate with residents, business owners and others by landlines and cell phones, as well as email and text.

Not that easy to sign up for Caldwell alerts--you have to print and send in a paper form. In these days, it's not convenient for many to do so, so I haven't yet registered with my own town. West Caldwell, on the other hand, has been stellar in simply adding Caldwell residents to their call lists. Why can't Caldwell do the same?
