Shop Local: Super Bowl Highlights
Planning a party or heading out to a pub? Here's what you need to know before Sunday's big game.
The New York Giants descended in Indianapolis Monday where Big Blue will face the Patriots of New England in Super Bowl XLVI. Unless you are a lucky ticketholder who will experience the game live at Lucas Oil Stadium (and only about 63,000 football fans are), you are probably going to be rooting for your team at home, at a party or in a pub come Sunday.
Here's what you need to know if you are throwing a Super Bowl soiree, need an apropos hostess gift, or still deciding where to perch on a bar stool. Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
If you are hosting …
Making an antipasti or a big pot of chili? Pick up all your meat needs at Vila Meats in Caldwell.
Rather not be stuck in the kitchen while the game is on? It's time to call in your catering orders.
Hog Wild BBQ has a Super Bowl catering menu. Pizza and Sandwich Barn offers catering as well as several game day specials like BOGO half-off pies (menu attached). Or pre-order subs from Calandra’s made on their fresh bread. Calandra’s also has cupcakes, cookies and cakes in football themes.
Cloverleaf Tavern is in on the Super Bowl catering action, too. Choose from Buffalo wing and Cloverleaf Pigskin (potato skin) platters or select one of several combo platters (menu attached). All orders must be placed by Thursday, Feb. 2.
If you are going to a party …
Edlyn Sweets is always changing their offerings with the season. For the Super Bowl, the Smull Avenue bakery is making batches of N.Y. Giants cupcakes, football-shaped sugar cookies and more. Or pick up a bag of their signature White Trash (a chocolate-covered sweet and salty snack) in a football-themed container.
D'Lites in West Caldwell has designed an ice cream cake with the Giants' N.Y. insignia, and ice-cream cake is always a people pleaser.
Score a “Touchdown Delight” from Edible Arrangements this week and get chocolate-dipped apple wedges for free. The offer (a $12 value) is good when you order the large fruit bouquet arranged in a keepsake football-shaped container.
Take me out to watch the ball game …
The Cloverleaf is planning a pre-game party from 3 to 6 p.m., featuring $2 and $3 draft specials, $1 cheeseburger sliders and $4.99 for a dozen wings.
Calandra’s Italian Village will have the game—and the volume—on all their big screens. Or catch the action at local watering holes, such as the Ringside Pub in Caldwell, Cleveland’s Tap Room in West Caldwell or the Fieldhouse Pub just over the border in Fairfield.
