Numerous local efforts to help victims of Hurricane Sandy are under way in the Caldwells.

Business owners, college students and everyone in between are rolling up their sleeves to help those most greatly impacted by the Oct. 29 storm that devastated areas of the Jersey Shore.

Here’s a guide to local drop-off locations for donations.

Caldwell College will be collecting items and packaging “comfort kits” to assist with Sandy relief efforts and to be donated where need is greatest. Items will be donated to the American Red Cross. Members of the community are invited to drop off donations any time in the Student Center lobby. Drive-up hours at the Newman Center are Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 13 and 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. Donations will be collected until noon on 11/16. The Chiropractic Source, 110 Bloomfield Ave., Suite B, Caldwell, is collecting canned foods, clothing, kids toys, kids clothes, appliances, etc. through Tuesday, Nov. 20. Items will be donated to Ocean and Monmouth counties. Office hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations may be dropped off anytime in bags in the office foyer. 

The West Caldwell Police Dept. has set up a donation center at an empty retail space at 911 Bloomfield Ave. Collections will be held from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. through Monday Nov. 19. Items being collected include non-perishable food, new toys, pet supplies, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and all kinds of household items. Please note clothing is not being accepted at this location.

Manhattan Bagel, 764 Bloomfield Ave., in West Caldwell, will donate 10% of sales on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and Nov. 18, to hurricane relief. Guests can also drop off donations of money, clothes, toys and other needed items at the restaurant this weekend. 

Guerrero's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy, 373 Bloomfield Ave., in Caldwell, also continues to collect the most needed items.
