The price of rent, the cost for small stores and businesses to stay open is too much now a days. We all tend to look to the bigger companies and department stores before thinking about our home town businesses. Such a shame to see so many open/vacant stores.

Splendid. For years, we had our prescription business with John Windt. He retired without warning and sent his book of business down to CVS. We moved it up to Rite Aid (previously Eckerd's) so we could continue to walk to get our prescriptions. Now they're headed back down the hill again? There were four pharmacies in town when I moved here. Now there are none.

I go to CVS anyway. Rite Aid couldn't fill a prescription correctly to save their life. And now that's evident.

That's interesting, Robert. I gave up on CVS because 70% of the time they didn't have the med that I needed, and they didn't seem to think it was a problem that I'd have to wait a week or more for it, even if it was a pain killer relating to surgery I just had the previous day. Rite-Aid always had in stock whatever I had been prescribed.

Besides. . . Dollar value of gasoline consumed by walking to Rite-Aid: Zero. Dollar value of gasoline consumed by driving to CVS: Greater than zero.

CVS isn't closing up now are they? So they must be doing something right.

Maybe they do alright by you, Robert, but not by me. No way. Oh, I forgot to mention. . . they sold me the wrong med once, and wouldn't take it back. And wasn't it CVS that was recently selling cancer drugs instead of fluoride pills when filling kids' prescriptions?

Yes, they accidentally switched meds. I never said CVS was perfect. All I was trying to point out was who is leaving and who is staying.

I will miss Janie, Joan, and the other wonderful women behind the counter at Rite Aid. I will also miss the pharmcists for their courteous and prompt service. I pray you all find een better jobs and that we get to see one another from time to time. God bless all your have been and done for so many people here!

I'm so sad that Rite Aid is closing. I'll miss the pharmacists who prescribed my medications promptly....and the associates, especially Joanie, for their kindness and caring attitudes.

Well hello! It's 2012! All these "old" shops need to update their appearance. And dust!!! Rite Aid, Franco's, Bromillo's and yes, I'll include Jacks w/out question, all look like something from the Deliverance!

This is a very large loss to all the seniors who don't have cars who use Rite Aid since they do had delivery service. I don't think CVS or Walgreens do,no pharmacy in Caldwell is a disgrace. I remember when there more. Tom Flemming in the old Caldwell Drugs was the best! It's ashame to see all these stores closing in Caldwell and no one seems to care, they just complain about the dust, the people working in these stores didn't meet their personal preferences. The more stores that close the less will be rented in the future, since there will be no incentive to open a store in a dead area. We will be a town of nail shops, hairdressers and pizza places and take out! I would like to say to the employees of RiteAid. Thanks for such great service and you all will be sadly missed by most of us. There are always a few you can never make happy, they are the ones that are happy going down the hill, keeping the BIG stores in business. To add to this Caldwell is going to make it even more difficult to park by adding in more meters so it just pushes residents to go doing the hill where parking is free and all the stores are open. This council needs to open its eyes and realize they are the ones that are contributing to these store closings.

The real point is how sad it is that any business has to move out or close it's doors. "They" keep selling us a bill of goods that the economy is coming back. I just dont see it. My best wishes to the people who worked there who lost their jobs.

Filled many prescriptions and received same day.
And if prescriptrion was out of stock it was delivered by their vendor, Cardinal Distributors the next day by 3:00 Monday - Friday.

If you need to have prescriptions delivered, use Center Drugs, Verona. They have the same old-fashioned service you were used to, and fill the prescriptions and deliver promptly. I transferred there when John Windt went out.
