Red Cross Website Helps You Let Loved Ones Know You're Safe

This site allows people to tell family and friends they are safe.

Following Hurricane Sandy, it can be tough to reach all of your friends and family to let them know that you're OK. The American Red Cross has a "Safe and Well" registry that can help spread the word.

You can go to the site and enter your information, and confirm that you're "safe and well." Then, friends and family can also go to the site and search for your name.

Here are instructions from the Red Cross site:

Register Yourself as “Safe and Well”
Click on the “List Myself as Safe and Well” button to register yourself on the site.

Search for Loved Ones
Concerned family and friends can search the list of those who have registered themselves as “safe and well” by clicking on the “Search Registrants” button. The results of a successful search will display a loved one’s first name, last name and a brief message.

I'm waiting for those Haitians to send some cash for hurricane relief. We sent an awful lot of money down there after the earthquake and the place is still a 4th world dump. I guess the money got stolen, because nothing got any better.

Sandy passed by Haiti first and they are worse than us

Are you kidding me? You are completely out of touch with the plight of Haiti and the Haitian people. If I were you I would draft what I want to write and then delete it.
And by the way- no matter how bad it is here, the United States, New Jersey, and its municipalities have the infrastructure to solve the issues. Not so in places like Haiti. You could always take a history class while you are waiting,

Really that is such a rude and unnecessary comment. It might be best if you can figure out how you can help, instead of deciding another poor, devastated country deserves your criticism.

THE ONLY THING THE RED CROSS IS GOOD FOR IS SELLING COFFEE AND DONUTS

Lucky for you Frank that you have never needed the Red Cross. If you saw what they did first hand you may be a little less cynical. Instead of complaining maybe you could volunteer to help your community in its time of need. How about getting to your local supermarket and get some food for a food bank, or get to one of the shelters and bring some blankets, or buy some warm sweaters and hats to hand out or bring some fresh water to a shelter .... I don't know you must have some good ideas since you don't think the Red Cross has any.

And that is what everyone needs right now because a lot of stores still don't have power. I NOSE a lot of people that would love to have a nice hot cup of coffee and a donut right now. Would you if you didn't have power for three days ?

I haven't had power in 3 days and 3 hours. I don't want coffee and a donut. I want a hot shower and lights.

Also, I don't expect things to happen overnight and it'll be back when it is. It's that simple. I'm not complaining. I still have my home.

Your Red Cross actually told me that my daughter needed to "self advocate" when I called them for assistance for her.
Ps took 48 hrs to return my call

Didnt you people go through this last year? I mean, really??? Seems like all the moaning is really about you not buying a generator to power your home. Soory the weather got bad, not sorry you people didnt prepare. Have fun in the dark.

One can only wonder why some unpleasant person from Illinois would bother spreading his snark on Morristown Patch. Perhaps he's a natural disaster groupie.

Uh Nancy this isn't just Morristown Patch-just so you know. And the man from Illinois is right. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Get a generator if you don't like the dark. Sounds right to me. Thank, Mike. :-)

You now what I was reading all these comments and they really disturb me.Everyones talking abot how these people should have bought generators and been prepared.Let me ask you this how about the woman who's two sons were ripped out of her arms, how could she been more prepared.Instead of complaing why don't y'all get off your ass and try helping instead of complaining about what Red Cross doesn't do.Do you realize Red Cross is mostly run by volunteers. There are alot of people out there worse off then you are

Peace out, dawgs. If you can't say anything nice then please be quiet. What we need now is blessings, prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts -- whatever it is you do -- as well as love in action through your actions or your wallet to help those who need help. There's no place in storm recovery for Monday morning quarterbacking. That being said, ya'll need to LEARN from this and have your own preparedness plan appropriate for wherever you live. Here in Delaware we are totally aware that we barely missed it being us standing in line for food and picking through our destroyed homes. I was prepared, or rather was pretty sure I was prepared, and now I see that there's more to be done to have a working plan. Life's too short for negativity. Get off your arse and put all this energy in motion. Just saying...
Peace, Lee in Delaware
