Incumbents Retain Seats, Budgets Pass

Storey, Rosenberg re-elected to West Essex; Hansen joined by King in CWC.

Budgets for the Caldwell-West Caldwell, West Essex and North Caldwell K-6 school districts all passed Tuesday, while incumbents Rosanne Hansen, Diane Storey and Marie Rosenberg were each re-elected.

With all but 375 votes accounted for due to a machine malfunction at Harrison School, the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District's with a local tax levy of 3.71 percent has been unofficially passed by a margin of 55.08 percent to 44.92 percent.

A total of 1,957 votes were cast with 1,100 for the budget and 897 against. The budget was voted down nearly 2-to-1 at Caldwell College's polling station with 77 opposed to 43 in favor. The budget was also voted down at Wilson School, 95 to 94 and there was a tie of 56 votes for and against at Lincoln School.

Hansen has unofficially earned a fourth term to the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education with 1,153 votes, while John J. King has unofficially received the second open seat with 1,043 votes. Peter Torok garnered 895 votes.

A total of 800 voters—16.08 percent—turned out in Caldwell, while 1,157—14.84 percent—came out in West Caldwell. A total of 1,957—15.33 percent—cast votes in the two municipalities.

West Essex's with a local tax levy of 3.99 percent was approved by a vote of 2,120 to 1,560. North Caldwell residents passed the budget by a margin of 707 to 388.

Storey received 605 votes and Rosenberg earned 532 to retain their North Caldwell seats on the Board of Education. Challenger Victor Steven Wangner garnered 412 votes.

David Laible beat Jarrett Hesselbirg for Roseland's seat on the board by a margin of 605 to 532. Carolann Aschoff received 672 votes to complete an unexpired term that was unopposed.

In North Caldwell, preliminary results reveal the with a tax levy of 4 percent was passed by a vote of 662 to 438, according to Business Administrator Victor Hayek.

Robert Projansky, running unopposed, was elected with 521 votes to the North Caldwell Board of Education's seat vacated by Michele Chiaia, who did not seek a second term.
