Photographs, Volunteers Sought for Library Fundraiser
Legacy for Literacy will raise funds for Caldwell Public Library.
The dinner, co-hosted by Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing and former Mayor Susan Gartland, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 10 p.m., at the Green Brook Country Club in North Caldwell. Proceeds will benefit the library and former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Keane will be honored.
Anyone with old photos that depict the history of Caldwell's Carnegie Library, should contact Caldwell resident Bob Markman at 973-228-3278 or email@example.com.
“Over a century ago, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, donated $10,000 to build a library, and in 1917, the Caldwell Public Library opened its doors,” said Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing.
Dassing added, “In support of Andrew Carnegie’s vision to do real and permanent good in this world, I am thrilled to announce the first Mayor’s Legacy for Literacy Gala, honoring the immediate past chairman of the Carnegie Foundation, Gov. Thomas Keane.”
Prior to the existence of the free public library, a small Caldwell Library existed and asked for a small fee in exchange for the books borrowed. The current library seeks to stay prosperous with help from the community once again as it organizes its fundraising event.
