North Caldwell 100 Percent Without Power

North Caldwell Mayor Joseph Alessi reported 100 percent of the borough remains without power Friday after what he called the “worst storm of our lifetime.”
Alessi said full power is expected to be restored by Friday, Nov. 9, more than 10 days after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the state.
While all major roads have been re-opened, numerous side streets remain blocked off by downed trees and power lines.
The borough plans to bring in generators and generator-powered lights for Election Day next Tuesday, Nov. 6. All four districts in North Caldwell vote at Notre Dame Church.
Notre Dame will co-host a Pizza Potluck for the second night in a row with St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell in the Trinity Academy Gymnasium at 5 p.m. Pizza will be available completely free of charge, and there will also be some other foods and desserts available. Residents are asked to bring branches and tree parts starting this weekend to the town pool parking lot. This service is restricted to residents with valid proof of residency and contractors with a completed “Certification of Source of Debris” form. Forms are available at the North Caldwell Police Department on Gould Avenue or from the borough website (www.northcaldwell.org).
The town’s Department of Public Works will provide a single pickup of branches and debris resulting from the storm, starting Monday. Residents are asked to place debris on the curb line and not in the street being careful not to block sidewalks or fire hydrants. Branches should be neatly stacked; no tree stumps or large logs will be collected.
After each street has been serviced, residents may dispose of during bulk garbage collection days.
Garbage collection has resumed as normal in the borough.
If power is restored soon at the municipal building and fire department, Mayor Alessi said those buildings could open as warming and charging centers.
The borough offices in North Caldwell have been open since Wednesday, but are without power.

It would be nice if the mayor shared WHY power might not be restored until Nov 9. Is it because there is a larger problem, a shortage of people, or because NCaldwell is low on the priority list? Inquiring minds want to know...

Just called PSE&G they can't give me any information. They have no reason as to why it taking so long and they're giving everyone in NJ the same estimate of time of Nov 9th... Hopefully it won't be that long.

Gov Christie's latest comment is that he asked the power companies to detail for him exactly where they have people working. He said he would share later today.

Lots of publicity because FEMA is sending gasoline to NJ. It is not gasoline supply that is the issue; it is lack of electricity to power the pumps. The same lack of electricity to power our homes or power the call sites.
Is it due to lack of commercial tenants on the borough that NC remains lower in priority at PSE&G?

Nice of the Mayor to leave everyone in the dark (literally and figuratively) and when he finally does say something, the news is just about as bad as it gets (in these parts of NJ, that is). Does the Mayor actually live in this town and have to put up with the cold, dark nights, or do people just not like him / us? Don't know if the Mayor is on the ballot come Tuesday, but if he was, I would vote for the other guy (and if he would be unopposed, I would write in just about any other person!).

i agree.. He's not getting my vote. He should have been keeping us updated during the progress of getting back up. He should have been in touch with PSE&G the whole time putting pressure on them to get our power up.

Typical political bs..the storm damage from last years halloween snow storm in NC was 5x worse but the mayor said this was "storm of lifetime"...stop the dramatics and do the math..last years storm damage a "10" power out 0-5 days in NC ...this years "storm of a lifetime" was a "5" and 100% of the town is out and looking at possibly 2weeks!!!!!!!!...why are we ONLY Essex county town 100% out??...guess we have zero relationships with pse&g morons..glad pse&g ran to Newark and got their "numbers" down by lighting them up 1st...suggestion-next meeting NC has with pse&g about high rise electric towers we all show up and tell them where they can shove those towers!!!!!!!

It's easy to get angry and lash out when we are frustrated and our world has turned upside down but I know they are doing the best they can working 16 hr shifts to get everyone up and running. There are people worse off than us. Think about how much better off we are. Don't think you are the only one with problems. We are all in the same boat. Lets help each other out and come together as a community and give these people a break. Also. Complaining and whining don't do a thing to help.

PSE &G has report today that they are working on bloomfield, montclair, maplewood.
They have not mentioned the Caldwells. After this is all over someone needs to look into the type of service PSE&G has not even all of the Caldwells. We are always last
to get the power back. All the Caldwells should look into get a different power company.

If we assume "ETR" is Estimated Time of Restoration, then midnight Monday for NCaldwell. Not sure how/why this conflicts with mayor's statement.
