No School for Caldwell-West Caldwell Monday

Sixth day district closed due to power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools will be closed Monday, Nov. 5, according to the district.

Only one school, Washington School, in the six-school district has power fully restored on Sunday night after Hurricane Sandy caused widespread power outages a week ago.

The district hopes to have all schools open Tuesday, Election Day, which will be an early dismissal day.

"If all goes well with the electrical work tomorrow morning all schools will be opened Tuesday, Nov. 6 through Friday, Nov. 9," according to a Honeywell emergency alert sent to parents Sunday evening.

Classes will be held on Thursday and Friday, originally days off, because the NJEA Teachers' Convention in Atlantic City has been cancelled.

All school district Halloween celebrations have been postponed until further notice, according to the message.

Parents would appreciate more information from the district such as, if a student has a plane ticket or a college visit planned, can that be an excused absence for Thu/Fri, since they were originally not school days? Other school districts have made this provision.

Kids need heat not school. School can alway be made up one way or another .Take away the mid winter and spring vacation. WE have 80 year old people in town that need heat. Stop feeling sorry for these kids. A little adversity in life will not kill them
