While James Caldwell and West Essex didn’t make the grade, several public high schools in neighboring Essex towns appear on America’s Best High Schools 2012 list, compiled by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
The list recognizes public high schools around the country based on their ability to prepare students for college. Six factors were considered: graduation rate, college matriculation rate, AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student, average SAT/ACT scores, average AP/IB/AICE scores and AP courses offered per student.
Millburn High School ranks 18 in the Top 20 list for the Northeast, and 83 overall. Below are all the Essex County schools on the list and their ranks. Peruse the full list on The Daily Beast.
| Rank | High School |
| 83 | Millburn |
| 253 | Livingston |
| 255 | Glen Ridge |
