Mount Saint Dominic Academy's cross country team captured its first group championship (non-public A) in school history at the NJSIAA Cross Country Championships in Holmdel Park Saturday.
The Mount defeated Red Bank Catholic which was seeking a third-straight title.
This is only the second time an Essex County school has won a state title, the first since Newark East Side in 1984, according to Athletic Director Lorenzo Sozio.
Cross country coach Asim Kohli called the 2012 team the "best" he's ever had in an article on NJ.com.
