Want To Tweet Aliens?

If you believe aliens tried to contact us in 1977, or if you want to have fun, this is for you.

Did we receive a "tweet" from outer space in 1977? Some people believe so.

A radio transmission that is known as the Wow! signal is being remembered thanks to a new television program by the National Geographic Channel.

That show, "Chasing UFOs," premieres Friday at 9 p.m. and is hoping to get a bit of a push by bringing up the historic incident. People are being urged to tweet between 8 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday with the hashtag #ChasingUFOs and their messages to space. The tweets will all be beemed up to space in one single message, according to representatives for the channel.

The idea might make one wonder what message would be of interest or importance to extra terrestrial beings ... if the transmission was indeed real.

The Wow! signal itself stood out as the only incoming data while astronomers have been looking for signs of life beyond Earth. Why is it called Wow!? Because that's what an astronomer wrote on the printout when he saw the transmission.

Of course, no one knows for sure if it really was something from another world trying to contact us. But that's the fun of it. So what do you think? Tell us in the poll below. And while you're at it, tell us in the comments what you would tweet to aliens if you knew they existed and would get your transmission.
