The , North Caldwell, will host the Give the Kids Hope Foundation, David Harris Invitational on Monday, May 23. After a nationwide search for some of the best singing talent in the country, Danny Spadaro of West Caldwell was named first runner-up of the inaugural Discoveredunsigned artist competition. During a live concert on Saturday, April 30, at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., 10 performers, including Spadaro, competed in the nationwide competition designed to find undiscovered singing talent.

Judged by music industry veterans, including Grammy award-winner, multi-platinum producer and engineer, Barry Eastmond; songwriter, Nina Ossoff; studio owner and composer Paul Steinman; Grammy nominated songwriter and producer Jimmy Greco; and songwriter, recording artist, producer and music educator Robert PorembskiDiscovered is designed to find and promote up-and-coming artists across the country. Finalists then compete for the chance to win a professionally produced album, including producers, engineers and studio musicians.

As runner up, Spadaro will receive two professionally produced songs. All of the finalists will be invited to a seminar at Mercy College’s Music Studio to receive one-on-one career feedback, as well as advice from the competition’s judges and veterans in the music industry. Sweet Bakings

Get your sweet tooth ready—Edlyn Sweets is coming to town! Located on Smull Avenue in Caldwell between and , the shop will offer baked items to eat in or take out. Most of the home-style goodies will be offered whole or by the slice, including a selection of brownies, blondies, cookies, bundt cakes, and coffee cake. The shop will even offer a selection of ice cream from the Denville Dairy.

The mother-daughter team of Pam Zablow and Laura Halen will be at the helm and in the kitchen, and son/brother Keith Vitiello will handle sales. Residents of Verona and Caldwell, the family is eager to get the business going.

“We plan to complete the renovations and be in by mid-June,” said Zablow. “Our baking will done right here in the shop. It is a southern, one-of-a-kind style of baking.” One of their specialties? “We have one item that is always a hit,” added Zablow. “New Jersey Trash is a sweet and salty treat that everyone really seems to love.”
