A New Year is a time for new beginnings. For many that means resolving to make a change in their lives for the better of their physical, mental or financial health.

Is 2013 the year you will finally quit smoking or lose those stubborn 20 pounds?

We asked a few familiar faces from the Caldwells about their resolutions and this is what they told us:

"My resolution for 2013 is going to be to try and enjoy the 'little' things in life. Life has become so busy that you forget to enjoy the 'little' things in life that truly make you smile and don't cost a thing! The great thing about those 'little' things are they could be something different for everybody, it comes from within."

—James Bongiorno
Chief, Caldwell Police

"As far as a personal goal for the coming year, it is to integrate technology more in things I do every day. I have used a Filofax for years and want to start using my phone as my calendar and address book in its place."

—Mary Davidson
Board Member, Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools

"My New Year's Resolution is to work with my kids in doing charitable activities for others."

—James Brown
Principal, Grover Cleveland Middle School

"My New Year's resolution is to take a hearty walk every day, no matter the weather. I am hoping that my new puppy will assist me in attaining this goal!"

—Barbara Adams
Principal, Washington School

"My New Year's resolution is to come up with creative ideas, programs and
events for Grover Cleveland Birthplace to attract over 10,000 visitors who
will shop and dine on Bloomfield Avenue (Birthplace had about 6,000 visitors
in 2012)."

—Akiko Axe
Trustee, Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association

"My new year resolution will be to keep a more organized schedule and spend my downtime with family. Not that exciting but needs to get done!"

—Martha Fava
Owner, Runway Boutique

"This year I resolve to stick to a gluten-free regimen. I've been having problems related to gluten ever since intestinal surgery in 2009 and I feel better when I avoid it. So, that's it: I am aiming to be gluten-free in 2013."

—Adele Puccio
Director, Caldwell Public Library

"I will continue to only read all the books that I have purchased and that have been sitting on my bookshelves for years and years and years. I vowed that I would not take any books out of the library no matter how tempting (excpet for new ones by Joyce Carol Oates and Penny Vincentzi) they look. And this is difficult because working in a library gives me the opportunity  to see all the new books when they arrive from our book vendor! I started with approximately 140 books. And now have 90 to go. One of these unread books is a two-volume paperback set of War and Peace that I purchased when I was in high school! And every summer since then I have told my self that I should read it but alas it hasn't happened! Maybe I will get to it in 2013. Because the print is so small, I really should read it before I need stronger bifocals."

—April Judge
Director, West Caldwell Public Library

"I love this time of the year because we get a chance to reset our clocks and make resolutions. It is our annual “do over”. I’ll tell you one thing I won’t be missing 2012 any time real soon.  It can best be described as an Annus Horribilis i.e. Sandy; Newtown, the fiscal cliff not to mention North Korea and the Middle East. But we are Americans and it is in our nature to think positive and work out our problems. Anyway as far as my resolutions here goes: to be more organized [which is pretty easy because I am so disorganized but this year I really want to make progress]; not to worry as much, don’t let things bother me, appreciate what I have and most importantly to spend more time with my family and enjoying life. And oh yeah work on my bucket list. I want to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy 2013."

—Joseph Alessi
Mayor, North Caldwell

I am vowing to get healthy. I will not vow to lose weight, as that is sure to have the opposite effect. I vow to make better food choices(especially around portion size!), do any sort of activity for at least 30 minutes per day(watching TV and eating don't count) and engaging less frequently in adult beverage consumption! Sounds pretty terrible huh? I feel the same but if I can accomplish at least 2 of the 3 it won't be a total failure...now, which 2 will I be able to sustain! :-)

Definitely begin to eat healthier and try to knock off a few pounds. Most of all always wake up thankful for what I have and to help those who
just need a person to listen or a person to let them know someone cares. Looking forward to my 1st grandchild in May!!!!!
