Local Pharmacist to Open Red Mango in West Caldwell

Frozen yogurt shop should arrive this spring.

A local pharmacist who confesses he loves frozen yogurt is opening his first Red Mango in West Caldwell this spring.

Urvish Patel’s shop will be located at 796 Bloomfield Ave. in the West Caldwell Shopping Center.

Patel, who lives in Parsippany and works for Rite Aid, said he became interested in the business venture when he learned Red Mango’s frozen yogurt does not include artificial ingredients and is low in fat and sugar.

He said the business will be an extension of what he does as a pharmacist, which is encourage his customers to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

“It’s my job as a pharmacist to care and know about health, yet as a frozen yogurt fan, I want treats that taste great,” Patel said. “Red Mango combines the best of both worlds with products that are delicious and packed with all the necessary calcium, protein and live active cultures that the body needs.”

Patel may be a familiar face to customers of the former Rite Aid in Caldwell, where he worked until the location closed last spring.

Popular Red Mango flavors include pomegranate, milk chocolate and cake batter which could be topped with fresh fruit, nuts, granola and more. The menu also includes parfaits and smoothies.

According to Red Mango, a four-ounce serving of yogurt contains about 100 calories.

The first Red Mango opened in 2007 in Los Angeles, according to Wikipedia, and there are now more 200 Red Mango stores and counting across the United States and abroad.

Good thing; we now have a 3rd frozen yogurt choice in West Caldwell! I was getting worried.

I jest, of course.

We may hold the record for most yogurt establishments per square mile in the state.

Must be high profit margin in the yogurt biz.

Can't wait for the next hair salon or pizza joint.
