Lions Take County Swim Tournament Championship

Ortman, Buckworth lead Mount Saint Dominic to crown for second time in three years.

Abigail Ortman won the 50-yard free- and 100-yard backstroke and was awarded the Cullen Jones Award as most outstanding swimmer as the Lions swim team was crowned Essex County champions in the recent tournament.

The Lions won the team title by 49 points over second place Millburn, 295-246, while Montclair finished third.

In addition to, Ortman, the Lions also received sterling performances from Lauren Buckworth, who won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.66 and Megan Wujciak (‘13), who captured the 100-yard freestyle in 52.91.

Also winning were the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ortman, Jasmine Spinelli (‘15), Wujciak and Buckworth, which finished in a record-setting time of 1:40.58 (eclipsing the old mark set 20 years ago) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Spinelli, Ortman, Buckworth and Wujciak, that had a time of 3:37.98.

Wujciak also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 1:53.29. Her time, as well as the winning time, eclipsed the old county mark of 1:54.66. Blair Frantz (‘13) was sixth in the 200 free (2:03.39) and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.15). Buckworth was second in 200 yard medley (2:10.36) while Maggie Coleman (‟13) was fourth (2:15.93). Spinelli finished fifth in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:01.59.
