Caldwell College Music Department to host class, recital concert on Sunday.
The Caldwell College Music Department and The National League of Performing Arts will present legendary violinist Joseph Silverstein in a master class for violinists, on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m., in the Alumni Theater.
Silverstein’s highly engaging demonstration will illuminate the performance practices of the Baroque era, as well as the brilliance of one of the world's most beloved composers; Johann Sebastian Bach.
Silverstein is one of the most celebrated violin pedagogues of our generation, having served as concert master and assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony, artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and principal guest conductor and soloist with numerous orchestras throughout the world. Silverstein has been a faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Yale University and New England Conservatory.
For the first half of the program, Silverstein will give a master class to selected violin students from the master class audition. Following the master class, Silverstein will give a short program which consists of a performance of a Bach Partita for solo violin, and a talk on interpretation of Baroque style.
