JCHS Students Lend a Hand at Healthy Food Festival

Daylong event focused on nutrition, healthy eating and exercise.

Students from volunteered at Protestant Community Center's first annual Healthy Kids Food Festival at the Quitman Street School in Newark last month.

Protestant Community Centers, Inc., (PCCI)  is a non-profit agency serving the children and families of Newark for more than 45 years.

The Healthy Kids Food Festival was conceived by Ethan Meth, a junior at James Caldwell High School, who became familiar with PCCI's Suburban Cultural Educational and Enrichment Program (SCEEP) as a former volunteer.

The daylong event focused on nutrition, healthy eating and exercise and included a broad assortment of food tastings, demonstrations and activities.

Sponsors included Investors Bank and Manischevitz and festival partners Suzanne's Specialities, Rutgers-Newark, Beth Israel, Newark YMCA, Rutgers 4-H & Nutrition Advocates, City of Newark-Let's Move, Essex Country CASA, Greater Newark Conservancy, Newark Museum-Generation Fit, Lotus Yoga & The Department of Child and Family Well Being. Music was provided by DJ Jen Michaca.
