Five Questions for Adele Puccio
Meet the new Caldwell Public Library director.
Adele Puccio started on Monday as director of the Caldwell Public Library and she says she is excited to be back in New Jersey.
Although she lives in Hudson County and originall hails from Brooklyn, Puccio has some strong ties to Essex County. Before her most recent position as the director of Rose Memorial Library in Stony Point, N.Y., she served for nearly five years as the supervising librarian at Bloomfield Public Library. Her son, 25, is a graduate of Montclair State University. (She also has an 8-year-old daughter.)
Puccio earned a bachelor's and a master's in Library Science from Rutger's University, and has worked in libraries for more than 16 years. She is perhaps as passionate about books as the technology she has seen develop over the years that have changed the way people read, such as e-books and MP3s.
Puccio chatted with Patch on her first week on the job about what she finds appealing about Caldwell, what she likes to read and her thing with wedding dresses.
Why are you excited to work in Caldwell?
I like the sense of commuity here. There's a real sense of hometown pride ... a sense of everybody coming together.
What do you like to read?
I like everything. I still love young adult literature, children's novels, graphic novels. I like mystery novels.
Did you always want to be a librarian?
As a kid I used to trot down to the Brooklyn Public once a week and get a bunch of books and take them home. It was just always something I've really wanted to do.
What programs are coming up that you would want to share with readers?
We are still having Feel Good Fridays, there is going to be Scrabble and a poetry reading. There is also going to be a Holiday Cookie swap on Dec. 14. People will bring cookies to share and we'll photocopy recipes to pass around. We'll also create a display of cookie recipe books.
What is something people might be surprised to know about you?
I have a collection of antique up to recent wedding dresses, the oldest is from the late 20s. I tend to buy them and lend them. I am even thinking of wearing one on Halloween. I don't know yet.
