Man in hospital Monday after gas station was robbed in Caldwell.
A gas station attendant is in the hospital Monday after he was apparently struck in the head during a robbery at the Exxon gas station in Caldwell.
The Exxon at 226 Bloomfield Ave. was robbed at approximately 4 p.m., according to police.
Police released few details Monday and have not been able to speak to the victim who is hospitalized.
The owner, who did not want to give his name, was not at the gas station at the time of the robbery and he said his employee was there alone.
He said the robber or robbers made off with approximately $1,200 in cash. Cartons of cigarettes worth several thousand dollars were also taken, he said.
The victim is in his mid-thirties to early-forties, according to the Exxon owner. He described him as a quiet, small man who is like family. He said his employee was fasting Monday for the Ramadan holiday.
The owner said there was blood in the gas station office where the victim was apparently attacked.
He said he was going to visit him in the hospital after leaving the station, which is closed for business Monday night.
