James Caldwell High School students Anna Gasparyan and Zizhan Luo take part in the annual fall cleanup of the school’s courtyard and pond. The students are members of the school’s Environmental Club advised by teacher Karen Browne. The club cleans the courtyard and pond areas two to three times per year.

It’s a messy job, but someone has to do it, and students in the James Caldwell High School Environmental Protection Club are up to the challenge. With rubber boots, gloves, rakes and more, the more than 25 club members dug in to clean up the school’s courtyard and pond areas.

“The club does a courtyard cleanup at least three times a year in addition to the fifth grade district Environmental Fair at James Caldwell High School,” said club advisor Karen Browne.

The cleanup includes trimming and picking up branches, cleaning debris from the pond, repairing bird feeds, and more.

“This is a great way for the students to learn about the environment and how to take care of it,” said Browne. “Working together can make a difference.”
