Donald Ryder Calvin, 82, a lifelong West Caldwell, NJ resident, died on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer.
Visiting will be at the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, NJ on Tue., Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Caldwell Methodist Church, Academy Road, Caldwell, NJ on Wed., Feb. 29 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, NJ.
Calvin was born in Glen Ridge, NJ and was a lifelong resident of West Caldwell. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
He was the owner/manager of Kennel Products “Caldwell Pet Store” from 1963 to 1988. After, he worked at the Home Depot in East Hanover, NJ for 15 years, before retiring in 2005. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Ann.
Calvin believed in service above self and was passionate about serving his family and community as a volunteer with the West Essex First Aid Squad for 64 years; a member of the Caldwell/West Essex Kiwanis since 1951; an active member of the Caldwell Methodist Church; and a leader with B.S.A. Troop 4, Caldwell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41years, Ann (Laramy); devoted children Bruce Calvin, Douglas Calvin, Joseph Mascuch, with wife Jennifer, Deborah Schulman, with husband Rick and Karen Ravitz, with husband Stewart; and loving grandchildren, Elizabeth and Richard Calvin, Sarah and Samantha Schulman, Dana and Scott Ravitz and Katherine Mascuch.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the West Essex First Aid Squad, Caldwell Methodist Church or to the Caldwell/West Essex Kiwanis.
