Halloween Costume Ideas for the Last Minute Shopper

This year's most popular costume in Montclair: zombie anything.

You wake up this morning and realize that you do not have a Halloween costume. Firstly, don’t panic. There is more than enough time to figure out something to wear this weekend.

Luckily, the Montclair Patch is here to help. The Patch walked around town and talked to two local businesses who offered tips and advice to keep in mind when you’re shopping for a last-minute Halloween costume.

If you are looking for a quick fix, head to the pop-up costume shop Halloween Secret, at 544 Bloomfield Ave. It has all the standard Halloween stuff in stock: masks, costumes, jewelry, makeup, accessories and more.

“The basics are popular,” said Stephanie Colin on Thursday, a manager at Halloween Secret. “Vampires, goblins, devils.”

Anything mummy related or Egyptian, and pirate costumes have been incredibly popular too, added Rainy Ferdinand, who was working at the store that day. In addition, people both young and old have repeatedly asked for zombie costumes.

The least popular items, warned Rainy, have been school-girl outfits and athlete costumes.

If you want to make your own costume or are looking to keep costs low, head a few blocks down to the vintage clothing store Blackbird Lane, at 219 Glenridge Ave.

Maureen Frances, owner of Blackbird Lane, said a lot of teenagers and adults have also been making zombie costumes, as well as storybook characters.

“Anything from a cheerleading zombie to a police officer to a cowboy has been zombied,” said Frances.

Ugly 1980s dresses are always a can't-miss, said Frances, in addition to wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses. Another easy suggestion is the 1990s look, added Frances, which you can simply do with a faded flannel shirt.

The best part about Blackbird Lane is the $5-and-up boxes placed outside the store where you can mix and match clothing. Or head inside, where there are cowboy boots, scarfs, bow ties and another accessories which can add a little pizazz to any costume.

Other vintage and consignment shops nearby include:

• Speakeasy Vintage, at 465 Bloomfield Ave., second floor.

Talie’s Attic, at 571 Bloomfield Ave. (behind Merit Fine Wine & Liquor).

SwapXXChange, at 425 Bloomfield Ave.

• Vintage Alley, at 730 Bloomfield Ave., Verona

I met my current bf on a cougar dating site. We have been going out for 6 months now, its as though it was meant to be. Some dating sites are terrible for women, if you could only hear what my gf tells me of the men she met off that site, until me that is. I think the site name is ★★SEEKACOUGAR.COM ★★
if you would like to try it out. There are a lot of younger men who are looking for dating older women on this site. Good luck.
