Caldwell Man Caught During Burglary Attempt
Central Avenue resident chased, arrested for alleged break-in try on his own street.
A Central Avenue man was chased and apprehended by Caldwell Police last week after he allegedly tried to break into an apartment on his own street.
Mark Brunnquell, 34, of Caldwell, was charged with attempted burglary and two counts of criminal mischief after a neighbor witnessed him allegedly rip off a rear storm door from a third-floor Central Avenue apartment before allegedly throwing a cinder block threw one of the windows Thursday night at about 7:20 p.m.
According to Detective/Sgt. Tony Marta, no entry was gained, but Brunnquell fled down the fire escape when Lt. Marc Driggs arrived on the scene between Whitfield Street and Wakefield Place. Driggs pursued and apprehended Brunnquell a short time later, Marta said.
It is unknown and under investigation if the incident is related to any of the six other recent burglaries and attempted break-ins throughout the area during the last month, Marta said.
However, Marta said Brunnquell, who lives down the block, knew the Central Avenue resident, who was not home at the time of the incident.
Brunnquell is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, May 6.
Driggs also arrested James Heinkel, 20, of Caldwell, last Thursday night for possession of a controlled dangerous substance following a motor vehicle stop on Bloomfield Avenue near Central Avenue at about 11:30 p.m.
Heinkel, who also received two motor vehicle summonses, was allegedly found in possession of marijuana, Marta said.
Heinkel is scheduled to appear in court May 10.
The Caldwell Police are also investigating a shoplifting incident at ShopRite Liquors Monday night at about 8:45 p.m.
According to Marta, a man was seen leaving the store with a bottle of vodka in his pants.
The incident remains under investigation with police examining possible leads from the store's security cameras, Marta said.
A Park Avenue man was arrested Monday night for disorderly conduct following an alleged dispute with a cab driver at about 9:20 p.m., Marta said.
John Feith, 42, of Caldwell, was arrested for disorderly persons after allegedly causing a disturbance in the neighborhood over a disputed cab fee, Marta said.
Feith is scheduled to appear in court May 24.
