Bomb Squad Delivers Peace of Mind to Homeowners
North Caldwell family reports 'suspicious package' on rear deck.
Sometimes what appears to be a strange package is just something your kid mail-ordered without your knowledge.
A family on Stonybrook Road in North Caldwell told police they came home Thursday night and found a suspicious looking box postmarked in Germany on their rear deck. The package was leaning against their back door.
The police, who received the call around 7:20 p.m., notified the Essex County Bomb Squad. The box was x-rayed and deemed to be safe, Chief Mark Deuer said.
Deuer said when the box was opened two books lay inside. Turns out they had been ordered by one of the family’s “adult kids.”
The chief said no one was sure why the books came from Germany when they were ordered from an American website. He said the family also thought it was strange the package was delivered to the rear of the house.

I would say it was a smart FEd Ex, United Parcel or Post office employee. Doing a similar business myself and having to leave packages, we try to leave things where they won't get wet, people do not see them and steal them. Unfortunately we live in a world now that people are paranoid. Now everyone in the family has to know when something is coming. Its a shame.

Seeing as a North Caldwell resident was blown up by the Unabomber, I guess it is not too crazy for these people to have called the police. Although I tend to agree with you Cj.
